HILLTOP, W.Va. — A Fayette County man is facing a felony arson charge after he allegedly set his father’s porch on fire Thursday evening.
Deputies responded to a call for an intoxicated male creating a disturbance at Mountainair Mobile Home Park in Hilltop. While en route, dispatchers learned Jimmy McCune, 46, set the residence’s porch on fire. He fled before police arrived, but was located shortly after at a nearby convenience store.
The fire was contained the porch and was successfully put out with a hand-held fire extinguisher. No fire crews were dispatched to the scene. Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley explained what they believe led to McCune igniting the porch.
“The suspect was allegedly angry at his elderly father for not taking him to pick up his girlfriend. Sadly, this type of abuse happens, and fortunately, we were able to intervene.”

McCune has been charged with one felony count of first degree arson. The case is still under investigation by Deputy B.K. Fernandez of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
