BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — A Bluefield man was sentenced Wednesday in connection with the January 2016 shooting death of a man outside of a motel.

Steven Williams, 24, was charged with first degree murder for shooting Dexter Mitchell, 34, multiple times in the head. It happened at around 3 in the morning outside of the Quality Inn in Bluefield, according to a previous MetroNews report.

Surveillance footage obtained by Bluefield Police shows a large fight broke out just before the shooting. The crowd began to flee once shots rang out. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams fled the scene but turned himself in to police later that day. He was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years in prison.
