BECKLEY, W.Va. — Sears Holdings, Kmart’s parent company based near Chicago, announced Thursday that the Beckley store will close in January.

The Beckley Plaza location will be among three in West Virginia and 45 across the nation to close. The company said in a recent statement they want to keep the stores open through the holiday season.

“Eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores. Customers can use the store locator function on our web sites to find the location of their nearest Kmart and Sears stores. Liquidation sales will begin as early as November 9 at these closing stores.” –Sears Holdings

Once the Beckley Kmart closes, the closest store to Raleigh County will be the MacCorkle Avenue location in Charleston.

Earlier this year, Sears Holdings announced the closure of the Crossroads Mall Sears. The building will be replaced by Rural King. There is no word yet if any businesses are planned to fill the Kmart building.

The other two West Virginia stores slated to close are in Vienna and Martinsburg.
