A disturbing discovery inside a Raleigh County home has led to the arrest of a parent after authorities found drugs, syringes, and a firearm within arm’s reach of an 8-year-old child.

According to the West Virginia State Police, troopers assisted in executing a search warrant at a residence connected to controlled fentanyl purchases made from the home.

Upon entering, officers immediately spotted drugs and drug paraphernalia, including a loaded, uncapped syringe covered with a white powdery substance on a table near the entrance.

Inside one of the bedrooms, troopers found the mother, identified as Skylar Lowe, in bed with her 8-year-old daughter. Police say a syringe was located in the same bed the child was sleeping in, along with a small container appearing to hold a white powdery substance.

Within arm’s reach of the child, officers found a table covered in powder, four syringes (one uncapped), a container of pills, and a loaded pistol in a nearby drawer. Another uncapped syringe was located on a dresser in the room.

Lowe was arrested and charged with Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury.
