Two people were arrested following a K-9-assisted traffic stop conducted by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office in the Beckley area earlier this month.

According to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Saturday, January 10, 2026. During the stop, the deputy deployed a K-9 partner, which alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Following the alert, deputies searched the vehicle and recovered a firearm, approximately 78.7 grams of methamphetamine, 6.2 grams of fentanyl, 46 grams of a fentanyl and methamphetamine mixture contained in a separate container, 0.5 grams of crack cocaine, and about $2,900 in cash, authorities said.

The driver, Michael L. Cooper, was arrested and charged with a traffic violation, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, and improper registration.

The passenger, Bernard Garrison, was arrested on a charge of fugitive from justice after deputies determined he was wanted out of the state of Louisiana.

Both individuals were taken into custody by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office. No further details were released.
