A Raleigh County woman is facing additional trouble after authorities say suspected fentanyl was discovered on her during intake at the Southern Regional Jail.
According to law enforcement, Abby Jewell was served with two warrants on January 7, 2026, and transported to the jail on Airport Road.
During the standard intake process, Jewell was placed in a body scanner and later subjected to a strip search. Officers noticed folded foil on her person and say she attempted to place it in her mouth before it was recovered.
When opened, part of the foil appeared burned, and the remaining portion contained a white powdery substance, which Jewell reportedly admitted could be fentanyl. The substance was later weighed at law enforcement headquarters, totaling approximately 0.1 grams.
Authorities said Jewell had been warned multiple times to disclose any contraband before entering the jail, but investigators say she knowingly transported a controlled substance onto jail grounds.
