HINTON, W.Va. — Police have charged a Summers County man following the theft of more than $1,000 worth of items from a front porch in Hinton.

According to police, Patrolman L. Appell responded to a reported larceny on Summers Street on December 18, 2025. Residents told officers that multiple items were stolen from their porch around 4:40 a.m. on December 17. The victims provided security camera footage along with an itemized list of the missing property.

After reviewing the footage, police say the suspect was seen entering the porch through a plastic door while wearing sweatpants, a hoodie and distinctive black-and-white shoes. Authorities say the suspect appeared to look through several items on the porch before partially pushing the security camera upward, though the doorway remained visible.

Police report that more than 25 items were taken during the incident, with a combined value of approximately $1,063.

Later that evening, officers received information that the suspect was at another residence on Summers Street. Police located David Lee Terry Jr., who they say was wearing clothing consistent with the suspect seen in the video. Officers also reported finding Terry in possession of several items believed to have been stolen from the residence.

David Lee Terry Jr. has been charged with grand larceny. The incident remains under investigation.
