The Salvation Army of Beckley is asking the community for help as this year’s Red Kettle campaign faces a major shortfall. With Christmas approaching, donations are $7,000 behind last year and $72,000 away from the campaign’s $150,000 goal.
Why the Funding Matters
The Red Kettle campaign is the primary source of support for many of the Salvation Army’s local programs. All money raised stays within the zip code where it’s collected, helping fund:
The soup kitchen
After-school programs
Youth music instruction
Emergency utility assistance
The community food pantry
Impact of Low Donations
Captain Liz Blusiewicz says the early winter snow has reduced foot traffic and slowed giving, putting essential community services at risk.
“We rely on the generosity of our neighbors to make these programs possible,” she said. “Lower donations this season mean we may not be able to fully meet the needs of the communities we serve.”
