A Fayette County man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl in Oak Hill.
John Gray, 40, of Oak Hill, was sentenced on December 2, 2025, to three years and one month in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Gray previously admitted to multiple drug sales spanning 2023 and 2024.
According to court documents, Gray sold about two pounds of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in Oak Hill on March 28, 2023. He later admitted to selling an additional 848 grams of methamphetamine to an informant on May 1, 2023.
Gray also admitted to selling three grams of fentanyl on May 3, 2024, and another three grams on May 6, 2024. During an interview with law enforcement on March 1, 2024, Gray acknowledged distributing roughly three grams of fentanyl three times a week from April 2023 until his arrest in March 2024.
Gray was one of four individuals indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with the drug trafficking conspiracy. All four have entered guilty pleas.
Co-defendant sentences include:
Phillip Gray, 42, of Oak Hill and John Gray’s brother, was sentenced October 15, 2025, to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Leondus Whittenburg, 43, of Beckley, was sentenced August 19, 2025, to seven years and 11 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing 5 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Daemien Thompson, 40, of Oak Hill, pleaded guilty May 7, 2025, to conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and is scheduled for sentencing on January 8, 2026.
U.S. Attorney Moore Capito announced the sentence and credited the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Central Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force for their work on the case.
