BECKLEY— West Virginia Junior College’s School of Nursing has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 CECU Innovation in Employer Collaboration Award, one of only three schools nationwide to earn this distinction.
The award, presented by the Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU), recognizes institutions that demonstrate excellence in education, innovation, and partnerships with industry. The Innovation in Employer Collaboration category honors schools that actively engage with employers to enhance student learning, strengthen workforce pipelines, and support community economic development.
Focus on Rural and Underserved Communities
WVJC was recognized for its commitment to delivering high-quality nursing education to rural and underserved areas through its online and hybrid programs. Students benefit from a flexible academic structure, completing lab and clinical experiences at regional healthcare facilities in their own communities.
“This recognition reflects the power of innovation and collaboration in higher education,” said Chad Callen, CEO of WVJC.
“We are proud to be at the forefront of advancing nursing education and helping to strengthen the healthcare system in the communities we serve.”
Hands-On Learning and Workforce Development
Through strategic partnerships with local healthcare providers, students gain practical experience where many will begin their careers. The approach not only prepares students for professional success but also helps address critical workforce needs in healthcare.
